I don't know how to dress? (Summer edition)

I have literally no idea how to dress for the summer...In fact the thought of the summer really disturbs me. Usually summer dressing only ever occurs for about 7 days of the year over here (much to the annoyance of the majority of the British population), buuut this last weekends unusually warm English weather still threw me a little off guard. The thought of my so-pale-they're-practically-transparent legs made me feel slightly sick and then I remembered I only own black and also HOW RIDICULOUS WOULD I LOOK WEARING A FLORAL SUMMER DRESS?!
Or just even anything remotely girly..

Pretty ridiculous, okay.
So this is what I wore.
hi vampire legs.

Also, check out the pretty fancy curtain ties I picked up second hand the other day! A cheeky well done to myself for my dissertation results. I've been on a hunt for more over-sized chunky jewellery for a while, so this was pretty perfect. Plus it looks pretty fancy worn swung over the shoulder as well.

Curtain ties-most marvellous place to shop
Black dungaree playsuit- Topshop
Black tee- H&M

Hope you guys have been embracing the sunshine slightly better than I have!
For now I leave you with CL's new MV.. it grows on me the more I listen to it, and she's lookin' hawwt as per usual..
I love spying the rest the of YG family in the majority of their solo MV's.. (and mademoiselle Yulia)..

Lavender

I have come to realise that my wardrobe generally consists of the same few pieces of clothing worn over and over again. An oversized black t-shirt, loose black high-waisted shorts and black platforms sandals. Occasionally I'll throw on a black dressing gown or a kimono, but generally that's about as exciting as it gets.
Sometimes I find myself opening my wardrobe door and just standing there sighing at the contents.I guess it's a similar feeling you get when you repeatedly walk to the fridge and mindlessly stand there expecting to find something other than the empty jar of piccalilli and mouldy cheese (I should really go food shopping)... The sea of black and grey I'm confronted with every morning can be slightly depressing, but at the same time getting dressed in the morning has never been so easy. Plus I'm still wearing items I bought about seven years ago...
I think this lack of colour in my wardrobe has had an effect on my hair however... I cant wait to try a red and orange effect- not sure resembling a flame will be a particularly good look, but I'm excited anyway!

The beginning of the end.

Another shopping trip with the lovely Michaela Claricoates to spend the rest of our life earnings on fabric. As is typical of us we spent the majority of the day wandering around &Other Stories wishing we hadn't spent all our money on said fabric before going on to treat ourselves to Sushi and dumplings at itsu- Perfect day :)

You can't really tell from the photo but I've finally gotten around to re-dying my hair... Somewhere during the bleaching process the ends of my hair turned a purpley-blue (yey happy accidents)! However I'm still toying with the idea of shaving the whole lot off. Perhaps one day..
For now though I should be doing work seeing as I have THREE DAYS (dear Lord)! left of my degree-- I still can't work out if this is exciting or incredibly depressing! I still feel as though I have so much more to learn and so many more ideas and possibilities left to try... If I could have it my way I'd probably end up staying in education forever.. <3
I wish...

I art, therefore I bullshit.

I very rarely go 'out'. Mainly because these days I truly
find staying at home with people I really care about, eating
food and watching movies a lot more entertaining than
a night of painful heels and grimey men...
However, I treated myself to a mid-week bottle of Baileys
and it just kinda happened.. We took a few snaps before we left-
One of the best things about living in a house full of fashion students?
                      Raiding each other's wardrobes :)

Cropped top: Amy's wardrobe
Shorts: & other stories
Jewellery: Antique Jade necklace, Two silver chains bought in Thailand, jade ring bought at a festival and three silver bands- a gift from Micheala :)

Spending the rest of the day knitting before attempting to dye my hair silver again- could be potentially disastrous- wish me luck!

I don't know..

I've been a really awful blogger recently and haven't written a post for ages- thankfully I can say goodbye to my dissertation next week and I might (possibly) find time to do something fun enough to blog about..

The only thing of any interest that has happened to me recently is a quite drastic haircut. I'd been toying with the idea of cutting all my hair off for a few years, but always ended up being convinced I wouldn't look 'pretty' anymore, so I never did.
To be honest, I couldn't care less how 'pretty' I look, and I've found that I actually feel more myself with shorter hair. I'm not sure how that's even possible, but there you go.
The only downsides are having to actually style it in the morning (before I rarely even used to brush my hair), so it's taken some getting used to. Oh, and I tend to look like a 12 year old boy now, but Oh well.

DIY and dinogear

Another outfit post- these are becoming more frequent than I imagined...
I was inspired to create this top after a recent blog post by Love Aesthetics, and thought I'd give it a go myself with a basic black top I'd previously bought second-hand, and some left over plastic found under my bed. The contrasts in fabrics were a pain to work with and after a fair amount of unwanted ruching it actually turned out pretty good. I chose to wear it to uni today paired with river island black shorts and lace-up flatform boots from yesstyle.
I also wanted to share my little backpack from Dinogear with you- IT'S SO ADORABLE! Despite it having been designed for a child it's actually surprisingly roomy and I managed to comfortably fit all my essentials for uni in there, and was pleased to discover the bottle holders at the sides- perfect for my flask of coffee :) I absolutely fell in love with the dinosaur print and the 3D eyes are amazing..

MERGE

It's been an ongoing joke between the fashion/textile department that after working 24/7 on one project, you end up kind of becoming it.
In my case it is definitely true. Of course you design in a way that caters to your personal taste, but as you spend every second absorbed in your work it's really easy to begin seeing it everywhere and generally begin merging into your studio...
So many times my friends have drawn attention to the fact I usually dress like my work, so much so that during my second year my tutor actually attempted to throw me into my sketchbook shouting "YOU ARE YOUR PROJECT! YOU ARE THE PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF YOUR BRAAAANNDDD!"
The other day me and my housemate Amy were working in the studio (and by working I actually mean taking photos of our double chins), when we both noticed we were once again dressed like our work, so of course we had to document it..

Awkward...

How does she manage to look cute?

As you can see my (quite boring) sized 18 powder blue knitted jumper and leggings ensemble merges pretty well with my studio full of squares, lasercutting and random translucent things, whilst Amy is looking all pretty baby pink jumper and printed skirt surrounded by her delicate insects and soft knits...

For now..

Older and...wiser?

I finally reached the much dreaded age of 22 last Friday, an age I've been anything but looking forward to. Thankfully however, I didn't wake up an old and wrinkly hag as I dramatically envisaged. In fact I've had the chance to look back over the past year and it's strange to see how much I have developed as a person in just twelve short months. When I was a child I naively assumed as soon as you became an adult you automatically knew exactly who you are and what you wanted in life, so it for some reason still delights me when I see myself change as I learn more...
I decided to have a quiet one for my birthday this year, so my housemates and a few of the uni girls spent Thursday evening stuffing ourselves with tapas before going home to visit my family and to take a break short from Uni work.

And introducing the most incredible cake I have ever eaten made for me by my housemate's sister :) What a darling!

Flail.

As some of you may already know, Bigbang played in London for the first time last weekend, and I feel incredibly lucky to have been there to witness it. To be quite honest the few weeks running up to it I tried not to think about it that much--too much work and it hadn't really sunk in that I was going-- In fact it wasn't until they actually walked on stage that it felt real and I finally realised where I was...

I'm not going to go into much detail about it as I don't think I can find the words to describe just how amazing they were (and I'm not a good writer at the best of times)
And in all honesty I think I'm still on a bit of a comedown, so instead I'll just leave you with a few photos.
I took mostly videos whilst I was there (which I don't plan on ever sharing because they all include me screaming like an idiot), so please enjoy me and Michaela and the sea of VIPS
Much love
Hannah

I've been meaning to share my relatively new pale blue babydoll (bought for a whopping £3.50) but hadn't had the chance to photograph myself in it yet, so here you go... Quite possibly the cutest thing I own...

Ridiculously blurry crowd due to my dancing, but I thought it looked pretty...

Nightwear? Daywear!

I seem to be posting too many outfit posts recently- usually I hate outfit posts- but I enjoyed this ensemble I wore to Uni today. I seem to have this issue recently were I venture from my ridiculously over heated student house (I know right, since when have student houses ever been too hot?!), into the freezing cold treacherously icy outside world, (where I freeze to death), before stumbling to my studio and am again faced with 4556000 °C heating... The result is usually very wind-swept and puffy, and I end up having to strip off my millions of layers- quite frankly it's just a pain in the arse, okay.

So anyway. I decided to dress to suit both climates to save myself the effort of getting all naked when I got to uni. The end result was a sheer(ish) dressing-gown/robe thing with a black knitted jumper thrown over it.
It worked pretty damn well, and I'm pleased to say the menopausal-type stripping was kept to a minimum today...

Forever awkward.

I think probably one of the reasons I don't usually enjoy outfit posts is because I don't have a fancy photographer following me around while I swirl about, but I think I'm actually starting to quite enjoy my dodgy lighting and awkward poses :)

Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with central heating? What the hell do you guys wear in the cold?!

I'm off to frazzle in my living room now, so... goodbye..

Friday, 30 November 2012

Uhmm guys...

I've made an outfit post.. I know. Awkward.
But I felt the need to share a new purchase with the world (before I wear it in the print room and ruin it).
Sooo, I am pleased to welcome this black robe/kimono-type baggy thing into the depths of my predominately depressing black wardrobe. I'm sure it'll have fun there.
Also, the fact that I am announcing the arrival of a new article of clothing just goes to show how little I go shopping. An extremely sad fact which I'm really hoping to change.

So,
Dear the lucky people of the world with a high disposable income,
If at any point in your life you fancy treating a small weird fashion student to something sparkly that will make her look less like a bin bag, you are most welcome to!

Lots of Love, Hannah xxx

Half way..

I can't get over the fact we only have six weeks until we break up for christmas- ohmygawwdd!
I'm starting to think my tutor's might by right when they said this year will fly by... I've been trying to think of what to do with my life after I've graduated.. Masters? Interning? Teach abroad until I know for sure? God knows... Maybe I'll just take my plan B and become a crazy cat lady 50 years earlier than I'd planned..

Anyway, the majority of last week was spent putting off writing my dissertation proposal, however I did squeeze in some time to paint and experiment with line a little more... Oh and I thought I'd include a- kind of- outfit post, which is basically just me showing you why I don't often make outfit posts... I find I always resort to the most basic black clothes in my wardrobe, because literally everything I wear to uni gets covered in paint or dye, so sadly I don't really own many exciting clothes... crryy.

P.s Please ignore the ends of my hair, the blonde I had put it about a year ago still seems to be fighting it's way back...

Halloweenie

Seeing as it's halloween, I thought I'd actually make the effort and go out.. (usually I'm only too happy to just have a night in with food and films), but last night was an exception... Plus, me and Amy had found aged 11-12 boys glow-in-the-dark skeleton onesies earlier that morning, so we had to!

I think this is pretty much the definition of halloween on a budget. I think my whole outfit cost me less than a tenner... and £6 was on the onesie...  And I'm not usually one to wear a lot of makeup, but I was actually really loving the dark lipstick!

I apologise that the only photos we really have are the ones we took on Amy's webcam, but we always forget to take proper photos when we go out.. and we usually just end up pulling gross faces in all of them... Oh well..

For now,
Hannah
