F A S H I O N // All Hail: G-dragon for Hypebeast !

Hypebeast magazine landed dramatically on my front doorstep this week- dramatically because the sight of wonder man G-dragon gracing the front cover sent me into the biggest fangirl meltdown I’ve ever experienced.

I’m kinda over it now, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to string a few sentences together about this magnificent moment. I don’t know if any one actually reads this blog, but if you do you’ll be well aware of my love for G-dragon (or Kwon Ji-yong). It’s hard to say exactly what it is that makes me such a huge fan of him, but having watched his transition from (really quite awkward) BigBang leader all those years ago when they first debuted- remember that really early reality thing they did during the training days- ha), into this absolute babe of an icon, forever spotted swanning about every fashion week looking incredible.

It feels strange having people over here and America starting to take notice of him- part me feels celebratory and part of me absolutely hates it. I’m not surprised it’s taken the rest of the world almost seven years to pay attention to him, seeing as how close minded a lot of the western world can be (just take a look at the comments on Hype beasts sneak preview of G-dragon’s interview).  Not to mention the comments made by people I know in real life every time they’ve had a glimpse into the kpop world- it absolutely terrifies them. Men? Wearing makeup and androgynous clothing? Heaven forbid!

But what makes me feel really sad is the inevitable growth of the kpop world as it slowly becomes more main stream. Gone are they days were you have to befriend people halfway across the world because they’re the only other people who have any idea who G-dragon is… But perhaps this is a good thing. Hopefully everyone else will be as open and accepting of this genre as Hypebeast have. Their interview with him is one of the best I’ve read and they really go into depth about the cross over between his role in both the music and fashion industries.

“To define him as merely a music artist, producer and performer would be to severely undervalue the South Korean superstar’s influence on multiple levels. It goes beyond just music. It reaches to broader creative spheres, extending into fashion and design. And while the interplay of music and fashion is nothing new, you’d be hard pressed to find an individual who has been generating the same buzz recently across both sectors of pop culture while also pushing the respective creative boundaries of each so heavily.”

Seeing Bigbang live last winter was honestly one of the best nights I’ve ever experienced-…being surrounded by hundreds of other like-minded fans was so amazing, and the atmosphere was incredible. Here’s hoping the rest of the world will be the same, because I swear to God, everyone on the planet needs to know about this man. All hail!

P.s you can check out the behind the scenes video with him here... while you're there have a browse of the comments and you'll see exactly why I kinda don't want the rest of the world to know.... ugh.

Babes. 2013 edition.

I've been meaning to post this for so long now! There are so many people in this world that I wish I could meet and raid the wardrobes of, but here are a few of my select choices...
Enjoy!

Hirari Ikeda

Student
Works at Dog Harajuku

If you have any sort of interest in Tokyo street style then you’ll already be well aware of
Hirari. If not, then I’d still be pretty surprised if you haven’t seen her face before. I
literally fell in love with the way this girl dresses, and I just adore her sense of experimentation. I don't think she will ever fail to surprise me- one day she’ll have waist length locks, the next she’ll have shaved the entire lot off. In fact, I’ve loved pretty much every hairstyle she’s had, my personal favorite being her Mohawk (which then inspired my to have all mine cut off). Her ability to through together multiple graphic prints without looking ridiculous is incredible, and (another reason why I adore her), she masters the art of layering and awkward hem lengths despite her height- inspiring all us petite women everywhere!

I could happily spend hours pouring over her latest makeup looks, something I always
wish I was better at. She's probably one of the only people who not only fills me with inspiration, but al gives me the courage to think "fuck it- i love it, I'm gonna wear it."

G-dragon

Rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer, producer, fashion icon, and every other cool job in the world...

It would be a crime for me to talk about style icons and not include G-dragon. I'm thinking he'll probably always make it onto my list of style inspirations, no matter what my wardrobe is doing at the time. Having seen him grow from a (quite awfully dressed) trainee to someone who’s wardrobe I would trade my cat for, has been pretty exciting.  Like Hirari I am always sat here waiting to see what beautiful new thing he'll wear next- and most importantly- what will his hair look like?! He's already done the mohawk, part shaved, floor length extensions etc etc, but I still believe there must be something he hasn't tired yet. Completely bald? I dunno, but whatever he does he somehow always manages to look fabulous. Probably because he’s G-dragon. Which is one reason why I’d never try an imitate his style- I’d rather sit and admire from afar please. And also because in my eyes, this boy can do no wrong. Ever.

Brooke Candy

Rapper

Brooke pretty much embodies everything I loved when I was thirteen, however she works the chav look 50000 times better than I ever did. All I remember from that period in my life is overly plucked eyebrows and a lot of blue eyeliner. I don’t know how she does it, but Brooke  actually makes me feel nostalgic for my pre-pubescent ‘what is fashion?’ stage -, and somehow I’ve ended up digging out my old £3 tacky gold hoops, bleaching my hair and feeling the need to get cornrows. Also, if you're  sick of seeing Miley’s booty everywhere then check out Brooke’s instead because it's five million times better. Seriously. Reasons I adore her- her ‘ LOVE THY SISTER’ attitude ! Representing the women of today- pro slut, pro woman, pro just everything fun and loving please. Finally. Thankyou Brooke- maybe maybe we can actually start supporting each other! oh, and I know they say "if you wore the trend the first time round, don't wear it again" (or whatever that stupid phrase is), but I kinda fancy digging that eyeliner out again...

Creepyyeha

Designer

This lovely lady is a  pretty new addition to my current list of style icons, but a very worthy one. In fact, she actually makes me feel a little depressed about my life- she's twenty, and she's already set up this amazing accessories brand. And what do I do with my spare time? Watch anime in my pyjamas. Well.
Despite my obvious jealousy over her sheer amazing-ness, she perfectly embodies that whole creepy yet still ridiculous pretty and kinda cute thing that I love. A look that I can never seem to pull off myself (give it time, perhaps I’ll stop being so lazy). Her combination of fetish accessories/ underwear combined with pretty little baby doll dresses and satin shorts is so perfect it's makes me want to cry. Oh, and all that monochrome- mmm baby.  Anyway you can see more of her beautiful self HERE and you can check out her store HERE!

There are still a million more people I'd love to add to this list, but it would probably go on forever, and i'm way too tired for that shit. In fact I am currently sat in bed writing this with a hot water bottle (finally the UK turns autumnal)! I've been waiting for the cold for so long! I'll probably make another one of these soonish as it was pretty fuunnn.

What do you guys think? Who are your current style icons?

Inspiration of the week 30.06.13

I have had nothing of much interest to post about recently as my days currently seem to consist of job hunting, reading and drawing, so finding things that inspire me (everyday) is slightly frustrating when I don't have much of a creative outlet right now.
For now though I leave you with three images that I fell in love with this week:

Short angular hair
Gold lip cuffs at Astrid Andersen
G-dragon
