D I Y // Minimal shackle notes

If any of you follow Love Aesthetics, you'll already be aware of her recent shackle notes diy. I found myself with some free time this morning (one reason why I love sundays) so I thought I'd give my own version a go.
It's such a simple and effective DIY using elements I already had in my bedroom and the garden shed. Perfect to hang at my desk and tear off any time I need to make yet another daily list... Plus it looks good too!

Thank you Ivania!
Check out her (new) site now for wonderful new diy ideas and shit loads of minimal inspiration!

D I Y // Frosted glass necklace

Possibly the quickest and easiest DIY I've ever done, this frosted glass choker is loosely based on the Chanel pearl 'headphone' necklace. (And I mean loosely)! I ordered these glass beads from Etsy a while ago, and they've been sat in a draw waiting to serve a purpose- so finally they've been put to good use!

The only other things you need are some thick gardening wire and a glue gun (or superglue depending on the beads you use).. Sadly I don't have a photo of me wearing it- lighting was not on my side today, but I promise you it looks beautiful on! I teamed mine with a softly knitted fisherman's jumper for understated minimal accessorising :)

Happy saturday!

Focus

Over the years I've found that focusing my mind on little creative projects helps to keep me sane :) This week has been pretty awful to say the least, so I'm incredibly thankful to my favourite blog for providing me with endless inspiration and diy projects to take my mind off things. This time I re-created my own version of the trivet found in this post which I'll probably start wearing as a necklace.

It's times like this that make me realise how much I need to invest in a new camera. Sigh.

Industrial Jewellery

My love for chunky and simplistic jewellery has reached a new height. I found these in my local hardware store whilst hunting for black duct tape... There are what seams like a million of these in our garden shed (unfortunately all rusty), and I thought they'd make perfect bracelets and rings, and at less than £1 each they're definitely not breaking the bank!

Talking of a million things- I have a ridiculous amount of blog posts waiting to be posted- it feels like I've been making things for my bedroom for about a year (it's actually only been about two weeks), but I'll be sure to share them with you soon :)
For now though, most of my time is being taken up learning to drive my first car (I had my first ever journey alone this morning, and I didn't run anything over- a good sign I think)... All practice for that scary long commute to work every day. Wish me luck!

I don't know..

I've been a really awful blogger recently and haven't written a post for ages- thankfully I can say goodbye to my dissertation next week and I might (possibly) find time to do something fun enough to blog about..

The only thing of any interest that has happened to me recently is a quite drastic haircut. I'd been toying with the idea of cutting all my hair off for a few years, but always ended up being convinced I wouldn't look 'pretty' anymore, so I never did.
To be honest, I couldn't care less how 'pretty' I look, and I've found that I actually feel more myself with shorter hair. I'm not sure how that's even possible, but there you go.
The only downsides are having to actually style it in the morning (before I rarely even used to brush my hair), so it's taken some getting used to. Oh, and I tend to look like a 12 year old boy now, but Oh well.

Transparent.

When it comes to accessories, I'm the type of person who owns an awful lot but only wears the same three pieces every day. Having been brought up with a wardrobe full of hand-me-downs, as soon as I reached my teens and starting buying my own clothes I went crazy for cheap high street fashion -trying to buy as much as I could to veer myself away from anything associated with being second-hand. Draping every item of jewellery I owned over multiple layers of clashing prints and sequins are a definite thing of the past for me (said with a hint of nostalgia).
Over the past few years though, less has become to mean considerably more to me, and if any of you have ever tried to draw or paint with an armful of bangles you'll know from experience it's an absolute pain in the arse.
And so, (as dull as it probably sounds), everything I chose to wear nowadays is mostly determined by how comfortable and how practical it is, which is why when it comes to jewellery I usually go for something fairly simple.
After having realised how little student loan I'd be receiving this year I was given an extra incentive to be even more thrifty with the way I dress and what I buy, and so recently  found objects such as elastic bands, netting from a garlic packet, gardening wire, plastic, foil and most recently duct tape are all things that have found their way into my wardrobe. Wrapping strips of metallic tape round my fingers is perhaps one of the cheapest ways of creating rings that I could think of (unless of course I drew them on, which is another possibility). Granted, it does kind of look like I'm covered in plasters, but I enjoy them nevertheless.

On a side note, please ignore the state of my hands- winter and hours spent washing them free from blue dye hasn't really had a great effect on them...

DIY and dinogear

Another outfit post- these are becoming more frequent than I imagined...
I was inspired to create this top after a recent blog post by Love Aesthetics, and thought I'd give it a go myself with a basic black top I'd previously bought second-hand, and some left over plastic found under my bed. The contrasts in fabrics were a pain to work with and after a fair amount of unwanted ruching it actually turned out pretty good. I chose to wear it to uni today paired with river island black shorts and lace-up flatform boots from yesstyle.
I also wanted to share my little backpack from Dinogear with you- IT'S SO ADORABLE! Despite it having been designed for a child it's actually surprisingly roomy and I managed to comfortably fit all my essentials for uni in there, and was pleased to discover the bottle holders at the sides- perfect for my flask of coffee :) I absolutely fell in love with the dinosaur print and the 3D eyes are amazing..
