F A S H I O N // Bringing back the backpack

I'm finally back at work! After two whole days of festering in bed, I emerged from the depths of my duvet and dragged myself to the studio.
Actually that's a slight exaggeration. I was greeted with coffee and poached eggs at 6am by my lovely boyfriend, and I was so happy to be feeling alive that I pretty much bounced all the way to work.
You probably all know by now, one of the many perks of my job is being surrounded by heaps of incredible products everyday, and today of course was no exception!
The girls were all cooing over a box of accessories by my desk this morning, and it wasn't until I turned around to catch them pulling this baby out the pile that I understood what the excitement was about!
My love for Proenza Schouler's accessories grows ever stronger with each product we get in, and I found myself falling for this black leather number.
If you haven't already gotten yourself a form of backpack this season then firstly, what the hell have you been doing?! And secondly this classic satchel will be perfect for you first time backpackers! (No mountain hiking involved though, I promise).
I overheard a woman in Zara a few weeks ago (she can't have been more than her early thirties), declaring her love for the backpack but complaining she was too old for one.
I'm sorry what?! How can you be too old for a backpack? Yes they may bring back unwanted school day memories, but these are way cooler than those huge rucksacks and inflatable things we all had in the 90's.. Besides, you're thirty! Don't go signing yourself up for Hush Puppies and skin tone tights just yet, jeez.
I've always admired my Mother's sense of style, and I'll never forget the worn leather backpack she brought back from Argentina and wore to death. Slung over an oversized t-shirt and paired with cropped jeans and a mop of pinned wavy hair, I thought she was the very essence of cool. She made everything look so easy (even that dungaree/headscarf/ nose ring phase she went through)... I have loving memories of the backpack, and I'll be wearing mine this season with what I hope will be as much style as my mother did. Although mine's a faux leather ASOS number, not this beautiful Proenza babe.
Well, one can dream...

Hannah
