Sunday- sleeping and shopping.

Sometimes I wish I more things to blog about regularly... We were asked at uni which of us were good bloggers and updated every day and thankfully no one did, so at least I'm not the only awful blogger on the planet.
I've had a pretty slow couple of weeks, but I finally have a strong sense of direction after me and my tutor covered the corridors with all my work and decided which direction to take my prints. I'm so excited for my final collection now it's unbelievable! And I'm coming up to the really fun stage of experimenting with more dye processes and fabrics in the print room- I can't wait! Unfortunately we've been warned not to put much of our work online at this stage which is understandable so you'll have to wait until May before I reveal it... Instead I thought I'd share with you a few new purchases from this weekend. I'd been given vouchers for H&M and Topshop for christmas, and although I don't usually go high street shopping these days, I thought I'd take a look at what they could offer me.
Generally I wasn't too impressed, but after a lot of hunting I did fall upon two items that fit in pretty well with my current wardrobe.

The first is this black mesh jumper/top from H&M which seeing as I'm all for layering, transparency and anything black and oversized I fell in love with it. The second is a black playsuit/short dungaree thing which again is black and loose and just very me. I went to put it on this morning though for Amy to photograph it for me, and one of the buttons holding the back straps on fell off. Not impressed Topshop, not impressed. Luckily it's only a one minute job to fix, but still. I guess you get what you pay for...

Oh, and as soon as I discovered Michaela could do corn rows yesterday I thought I'd take advantage of her skills and let her braid half my head- it kinda feels like a throwback to my thirteen year old chavvy self and I'm actually really enjoying it :) After throwing on some hoops and a paisley scarf I felt like my young self again... Or Taeyang from Bigbang? Because he always looks amazing..

MERGE

It's been an ongoing joke between the fashion/textile department that after working 24/7 on one project, you end up kind of becoming it.
In my case it is definitely true. Of course you design in a way that caters to your personal taste, but as you spend every second absorbed in your work it's really easy to begin seeing it everywhere and generally begin merging into your studio...
So many times my friends have drawn attention to the fact I usually dress like my work, so much so that during my second year my tutor actually attempted to throw me into my sketchbook shouting "YOU ARE YOUR PROJECT! YOU ARE THE PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF YOUR BRAAAANNDDD!"
The other day me and my housemate Amy were working in the studio (and by working I actually mean taking photos of our double chins), when we both noticed we were once again dressed like our work, so of course we had to document it..

Awkward...

How does she manage to look cute?

As you can see my (quite boring) sized 18 powder blue knitted jumper and leggings ensemble merges pretty well with my studio full of squares, lasercutting and random translucent things, whilst Amy is looking all pretty baby pink jumper and printed skirt surrounded by her delicate insects and soft knits...

For now..

No stress...

This time of the year has come around way too quickly! It only seemed like last week that we were all quaking in our boots over the thought of our final year, and now the first time finished.. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!
I had my formative assessment yesterday, so technically my christmas holidays have already begun (although my christmas feasting started about two weeks ago), however looking back over all my work I still feel like I could have done so much more. Never satisfied..
Anyway, I woke up Wednesday morning to a delightfully frosty day, and so myself and Amy thought we'd take advantage of the beautiful setting on the way to Uni.
Plus I hadn't really had a chance to share my new coat with the world... soo I now introduce you to my new Zara purchase..

I'd been on the hunt for a big-hooded-cloak-like winter coat for a while, and as soon as I spied this one, I had to have it! I not usually a fan of the high street to be honest- for many reasons- and Zara pretty much sums up everything I dislike about it, but even I have to admit it can sometimes be incredibly tempting..
The hood is amazing, it kinda makes me feel like a wizard or as if I should be galloping around on a big white horse. Plus it enables me to hide my face from the world which is an added bonus!

Amy looking very chic as always!

Now that I've finished for the holidays I don't quite know what to do with myself, and as much as I probably need one, I don't feel comfortable giving myself a whole day off. Just the thought of the workload next term is starting to make me feel a little sick, and I still have a hell of a lot of work to get on with over christmas (although our tutor has encouraged us to take christmas day of- thanks Jane)! I'll be the first to admit I get very stressed (although I may appear pretty chilled on the outside), I'll usually be dying inside. This year though I'd like to keep this to a minimum, and so we've been coming up with ideas to keep us all calm..

  • Sleep (something I can't seem to do very well right now)
  • Eat well (I swear fast food makes my brain stop working)
  • Banish negative and stressed people from my life
  • Yoga makes everything better
  • Write everything down
  • Manage my time well
  • HAVE FUN!!
  • Believe in myself
  • A good cup of tea makes everything better
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help
There are probably 50000000 more to add at some point... For now though I shall leave you with our pretty damn sexy alter egos..

Hannah..

So damn beautiful...
