DIY

I stumbled across the work of textile designer Imogen Houldsworth quite a while back, and was so inspired by some of her photography that chose to base my third and final module around her DIY and refurbishment photos.

Taking inspiration from my surroundings at the time (my studio at uni) I was able to base my work on a range of 'industrial' type forms and textures, i.e, peeling paint, splashes of paint along skirting boards, unfinished refurbishments, pipes, light fixtures, wires etc. It was amazing to find so much inspiration in just my everyday surroundings, especially as these were elements I'd usually overlook when trying to find something to spark ideas.. Not any more! :)

Colour board- pantone swatches taken from an image of an old run down shed/outhouse in a cemetery behind my house. The colours were perfect for this project, and the textures of the paint/spray paint inspired many of my print designs.

I found a collection of beautiful pastel leather swatches at Uni, which not only tied in really well with my theme and colour palette, but also went really well with one of Imogen Houldsworth's close-up photos of a plastered wall (see above).
I based my customer around fashion blogger Susie Lau. I wanted to design for someone who had a sophisticated style but who also has a playful and carefree side to the way she dresses. Someone who doesn't take herself too seriously..
