I was reading Company magazine yesterday and I fell upon their "How the internet helped the introvert" article. I feel in some way like this whole article was written for me. I've always known I'm introverted and although I love spending time with people I need so much alone time that my group of loved ones is now limited to a very small few.
I'm not a loud person either. The majority of my thoughts stay as just that- thoughts. I've never felt the need to spend time with others, I'm not motivated by other people nor do I receive my energies from being around them.
Yet growing up my whole life with friends who are mostly extroverts has made me feel a little weird for not being loud. My teenage years felt like a fight to be heard over my talkative and attention grabbing friends (as much as I love them), but in the end I gave up and kept my world locked securely inside my head.
Finally it feels like someone is paying attention to us introverts, and I was pointed in the direction of this book by Susan Cain. "Quiet, the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking" is my new read, and I cannot wait to get stuck in!
It arrived this morning and to my delight has an all white minimal cover- how fitting!
I'll be sure to let you all know how I get on and perhaps at long last we can all start to celebrate the power of keeping our mouths shut!

I'm tempted to pick up Company just to read this article. I'm the same as you; I can't get enough of time alone to be productive, reflect, or just gather enough energy for spending time with extroverts! x

DeleteAh you definitely should! I don't usually buy Company, but I think this article may have converted me into an avid reader! What's really interesting is how they talk more about how the use of the internet has helped introverted people to finally find their voice- we can give our opinions without having to shout them in everyone's faces :)
DeleteIn some ways I think it would be amazing to be an extrovert- but then I give it a try and I wish I'd just stayed at home in my pj's with a good book! Haha xx
Can you please blog about how to get followers on bloglovin and tips as well? Love your blog! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI can't say I'm an expert on knowing how to get followers (I don't really have many myself)... I prefer to write about whatever interests me, and if people connect with that, then great! I'll make a blog post at some point though if you'd like! It'll probably be a learning curve for me too!
