I want to draw your attention to the Alexander Wang objects
collection for a minute. Admittedly I was initially attracted to the layout
rather than the objects themselves, but
after checking them out I wanted some of your opinions
So, Wang’s objects collections (numbered 1-4) is “A curation of
personal items that fit into our everyday lives”, and I guess from a quick
glace that’s what it is. I do want to ask though, do engraved dice sets and
inflatable sharks fit into any of your ‘everyday lives’, because I wouldn’t say
they’re items I tend to use on a daily basis…But perhaps this is something I’m not supposed to be questioning and I should just shut up and enjoy the aesthetic. Someone did mention they were perhaps meant as collectors’ items, which I guess is possible…
The whole collection is in keeping with Wang’s minimal
aesthetic, with pretty much everything created in tones of black and gold,
however I kind of feel that if I were to spend over £100 on a pack of marble
coasters, I’d like to think they’d still look cool in 2-3 years time. These probably
won’t.
I feel as though this could be one of those collections that
without the brand name behind it, wouldn’t really mean much at all. I love
Alexander Wang and he’s collections are one of my most anticipated every
season, but sometimes I feel he’s just re-inventing something that already existed
last season, and his objects collection gives me that same vibe.
But before you start thinking I hate it all (far from it), I’ll
admit I really feel the need to own that yoga mat. The price is a little steep
for me, but I’ve been on the lookout for a less “look at me” mat (most of the
ones I’ve found are either pastel or “HEELLOO I’M A YOGA MAT” bright, so this
one looks perfect.
You can check out the rest of the objects collection here- I’d
love to hear your views!
Hannah
